FRANCIS BYRD
Francis Byrd was the first President and a founding member of the New Brooklyn Leadership. The New Brooklyn Leadership is a new political organization, with members in Prospect Heights, Fort Greene-Clinton Hill, Crown Heights and Bed-Sty that will pursue progressive public policies while promoting greater participation in the political process on the part of all people.
Francis is a longtime advocate of community empowerment and civic participation. He is the Vice Chair of the Board of the Nonprofit Connection, a non-profit management consulting and technical assistance provider for non-profit organizations. He is a past member of the board of the New York Chapter of the National Association of Securities Professionals (NASP-NY), and Co-Founder of the Wall Street FAST Track Mentoring Program a high school mentoring/financial literacy program. He is affiliated with numerous civic and professional organizations.
As Special Assistant for Pension Policy in the New York City Comptroller's Office, Francis manages the corporate governance programs, shareowner initiatives and proxy voting systems for the $75 billion New York City Pension Funds/Retirement Systems.
Prior to entering government service, He was a Senior Investor Relations Analyst with Georgeson Shareholder Communications, a Proxy Solicitation and Investor Relations firm advising Fortune 500 companies.
He is a graduate of Hunter College of the City University of New York, and the CORO Foundation Leadership NY program. Francis Byrd is married with three wonderful children, currently living in Prospect Heights.
